I learned a lot about leadership this year. Although I disliked bossing (for lack of a better word) people to do things a certain way, I know that sometimes it has to be done. Sometimes to get a message across you had to tell people to change things and rewrite, and that isn't always fun. I think it is a possibility that I will join The New Hampshire, the University of New Hampshire's student-run newspaper. I have read and browsed through their online version, and I think it would be fun to continue writing editorials and columns for a bigger audience. There is always a lot going on at UNH, so writing news stories would be fun.
I would tell all future journalism students to not get annoyed by little things- mainly photo captions, sub headlines, and headline. Because I have been there and although they are difficult, they will get through it. It can honestly be pretty difficult to come up with something that will catch the readers attention and that can be stressful. I hope they stick through it because I did and I've surprised myself by enjoying writing stories, editing, and even interviewing. Although I still view myself as an awkward interviewer, I got the information I needed to write a good story (most of the time). So for all those socially awkward, it does get easier. It is certainly not a reason to give up because writing journalistic-ally have improved my overall writing dramatically. And my editing skills have improved as well. I am also better at coming up with little things faster, like quick sentences or somewhat witty sayings. It really helps with a spectrum of writing skills.
I am extremely happy I decided to take journalism the past two years. It really was an experience that has advanced my English skills. Thank you for making me do things I wouldn't of otherwise done. I really appreciate it! :)
